Overview

New market expansion and further development within existing markets will continue to be dominant drivers of Wendy’s worldwide strategy over the coming years as Wendy’s continues its aggressive development program with new and exciting designs. The Designer, Global Creative will work with a highly innovative team that defines and communicates global design standards to internal partners, Wendy’s Franchisees and their Design Professionals for all asset types. In this role, you will contribute to developing new restaurant initiatives, formats, and experiences that respond to the needs of the brand. You will also support the markets and Franchisees through the creation of ongoing design improvements and maintenance of the current suite of designs and guideline drawings, writing material specifications, building supplier networks, vendors and other industry resources to drive education and thought leadership. A successful candidate will be motivated, highly organized, have strong verbal, written, and graphic communications skills, and will have the ability to collaborate with architects and engineers across the globe ensuring brand standards are properly communicated for implementation.  

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Assist in developing brand-appropriate presentations for the interior and exterior design of company, franchise, and in collaboration with international team.

  • Aid in the drawings of site plans, interior floor plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, exterior elevations, etc
  • Recommend brand appropriate material selections
  • Create renderings using hand sketching, sketchup and autocad
  • Put presentations together in powerpoint, indesign, word, excel, etc

Assist in the maintenance and inventory of standard construction documents and remodeling plans for distribution to the system. Partners with our procurement specialist to ensure availability of materials for use by engineering staff or distribution to field personnel or franchisees. Maintains and updates the Company’s historical archive of standard plans and related architectural documents. Responds to requests for same in a timely manner.

  • Provide quantity take offs for furniture, equipment, lighting, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate tagging of materials, hardware, art, etc.
  • Ensure that markups have been picked up and appropriate schedules updated

Assist in creating new restaurant initiatives, formats and experiences that respond to the needs of the brand, the market and Franchisees while managing the continuous improvement of the interior and exterior design prototypes for new and reimaged restaurants, keeping our designs fresh, relevant, and cost effective. Coordinate work with cross functional partners to ensure the designs are aligned with Wendy’s strategic vision from a global perspective

  • Provide help in researching the competitive landscape via magazines, online resources, and visiting restaurants
  • Focus on learning the business and its needs as a way to uncover and highlight potential areas for continuous improvement or innovation 
  • Create mood boards to capture and express trends for use by the team
  • Provide drawing support as required 

Coordinate building material selection and write material specifications for use in construction documents. This would include coordinating testing of new materials and research into the applicability of proposed materials.

  • Order material samples from vendors as needed
  • Provide performance analysis comparison for a variety of potential material options
  • Help in the maintenance of the materials library

Maintain a close understanding of industry trends through continuous research, competitor visits, and related industry trade shows. Present relevant findings to Wendy’s Design Team for consideration in the continuous evolution of restaurant design programs.

What we expect from you

Education / Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Interior Design or related equivalent
  • 1-4 years of practice in the field of architecture or interior design. Knowledge of design/construction detailing is a must. Must demonstrate an ability to create and direct related construction documentation.
  • 1-4 years’ experience with interior and exterior design including the sourcing of FFE and architectural materials preferred
  • Strong presentation skills and mastery of the associated tools a must. (hand sketching, Photoshop, Sketchup, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills with strength in management, organization and planning
  • Ability to multi-task while managing multiple timelines, sets of deliverables, and workstreams
  • QSR Experience preferred
