Overview

The Director of Payments Operations will support the global corporate and consumer electronic payment programs for the Wendy’s brand. The program scope includes all forms of consumer electronic payments across current and emerging acceptance channels, including credit/debit cards, gift cards, university campus cards, and digital payments. Additionally, the role will cover the leadership and support of the digital payment fraud team and the corporate purchasing card programs.  This is a leadership role reporting directly to the VP and Treasurer of The Wendy’s Company. 

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in payments, and should have strong contract negotiation skills, relationship management experience, attention to detail, and excellent communications skills. This position will advise the Wendy’s business design and define the strategic rollout of consumer payment programs for the Wendy’s system and serve as system payments SME. We are seeking a strong leader that can drive superior business results in a complex, fast paced payments environment, and believes in developing people.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead, manage, coach and mentor a team of two high performing payment and fraud management professionals. Lead, supervise and support the day-to-day operations of the payments function, including payment analytics and reporting at executive level. Oversee the fraud management function for card-present, card-not-present, gift card and loyalty transactions
  • Support and influence Wendy’s brand payments strategies and roadmaps. Investigate and implement new strategic and innovative payment types and methods in partnership with the global business functions. Implement payment process improvements, including lowering transaction costs for company and franchisee restaurants. Support the brand with current and future payment related initiatives, including implementation of payment and related technology and projects such as EMV, mobile payment, debit routing, franchisee settlement, 3rd party delivery, and loyalty.
  • Serve as payment Subject Matter Expert on payment regulation, litigation and rules. Serve as cross-functional payment SME supporting Wendy’s marketing, legal, IT, communications, and other stakeholders, including franchisees. Collaborate with Wendy’s purchasing co-op and legal department to execute RFP’s and negotiate payment related contracts. Serve as payments resource to Accounting on Purchasing Card, T&E Card and Paycard programs.
  • Serve as Wendy's business leader for external payment processing and related partners such as merchant acquirers, card brands, issuing banks, gift card processors, and debit routing providers. Support franchisees as escalation resource for card programs. Represent the Wendy’s brand at Payment industry events and conferences, such as the MAG. 
  • Serve as primary SME for all Payments process improvement projects and other initiatives. Represent the Payments function in IT PI Planning activities. Present status updates on Payments projects and operational status to the CFO quarterly.

What we expect from you

Education / Experience

  •  Bachelor's Degree in Finance, IT or related field required
  • A minimum of 10 years of Payments or related experience, including 5 years of experience managing a professional team
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Business and Technical knowledge of U.S. credit/debit/gift card and mobile payments ecosystems, including Interchange management, Visa/MasterCard/AMEX/Discover rules and regulations, Durbin amendment, EMV, NFC/contactless, card-non-present payments, chargeback procedures, gift card escheatment, etc.
  • Deep technical knlowedge of EMV, NFC/contactless and debit routing is a strong plus
  • Business and Technical knowledge of Canadian and United Kingdom credit/debit/gift card and mobile payments ecosystems is a strong plus.
  • Strong experience with RFP's and contract negotiation
  • Demonstrated success in proactive process improvement and project management is preferred
  • Prior experience in multi-unit/locational retail and/or franchised systems is a strong plus
