What you'll do Overview This position will work with suppliers on the functional design of product packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and display conditions. Tests, analyzes, and selects materials and structural design for packaging based on durability, sustainability and cost effectiveness. This candidate must have strong analytical skills to evaluate market trends, consumer preferences and industry innovations as well as to drive specification compliance. They must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work across many company functions. They will ensure that all packaging complies with all Wendy’s expectations and government regulations. Dotted line to R&D Manager. To include Support for Wendy’s Sustainability vision. Specific Responsibilities Include As category expert for packaging, technical support and professional consultation will be provided for cross functional teams (QA, RD, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations) and external customers; including product approvals, supplier approvals, second sourcing, complaint management, product development process and RFP process. Develops, updates, and implements the programs, procedures, and actions necessary to effectively monitor and maintain compliance with food safety and quality specifications of all packaging. Provides technical support to Wendy’s franchise and company store operations.Develops and manages packaging specifications and 3rd party laboratory testing program for existing and new items. Collaborates with R&D team to identify optimal packaging solutions that meet industry trends, food cost parameters and corporate sustainability goals through validation of food and beverage product quality. Designs and execute packaging tests, analyzes data and communicates results/ recommendations with cross functional team to influence business opportunities. Collaborates with cross functional team to develop testing and national launch timelines leading the commercialization and production run evaluations Conducts food safety risk assessments of all new food-related restaurant equipment (includes sanitary design and foreign material prevention).Oversees the scheduling and conduction of audits of manufacturers to ensure attainment of the departmental plan of action and compliance with company specifications and standards concerning food safety, quality, sanitation, and production. Ensures completion of annual third party audits of assigned product suppliers.Develops solutions and provides recommendations to suppliers and / or Wendy’s QA personnel for corrective actions for deficiencies and/or areas of non-compliance related to assigned products.
