Values When our square-shaped burgers made their first sizzle on the scene 50 years ago, people knew our approach wasn’t like any other. It’s what our founder Dave Thomas intended from Day One. Same goes for the way we treat people—with Dave’s values as the guide. They don’t have to fit in a box. His goal was to foster an environment of openness and honesty that allows everybody to flourish in their own way. Dave Thomas Foundation FOR ADOPTION - CANADA The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption-Canada is a nonprofit public charity dedicated to finding permanent homes for the more than 30,000 children waiting to be adopted from Canada’s foster care system. Through its signature program, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, the Foundation supports the hiring of adoption professionals who serve youth who are most often overlooked, including teenagers, children with special needs, and siblings. The Foundation also works closely with child welfare advocates and policymakers, provides free resources for adoptive families, and raises awareness about the critical need for foster care adoption. We believe: Every child deserves a safe, loving, and permanent family. No child should linger in foster care or leave the system without a permanent family. Every child is adoptable. Meet Wendy "I love this brand, but not because my name is on the buildings. It’s our business—our family business” - Wendy Thomas
Wendy has been the lifelong spokesperson for the brand since her father founded her namesake restaurant 50 years ago, and she continues to carry on his legacy every day. Wendy has been involved with the business since she was eight years old and started working with her dad in his restaurants at age 16. In 1991, Wendy and her husband Paul became franchisees and in 2003 became part of the Thomas 5 Limited, which currently operates more than 50 restaurants in the Columbus, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Youngstown areas. Wendy consistently lives Dave’s values by continuing his charitable work of finding loving families for children in foster care through the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA). She has served on the DTFA Board of Trustees since 2010 and currently serves as Secretary. Wendy and the Thomas 5 Limited have raised nearly $1,000,000 in their restaurants for the DTFA. In celebration of her lifelong dedication to our brand, in 2019 we proudly inducted Wendy Thomas into the Wendy’s Hall of Fame!
