For more than 50 years, Wendy’s has been committed to providing a high-quality restaurant experience, and nothing is more important to us than the health, safety, and well-being of our Wendy’s family members and customers. In 2020, Wendy’s restaurant operations changed significantly due to COVID-19. In many cases, these changes happened quickly and we all worked together to support evolving public health guidance and directives.The following highlights some of the important measures we’ve taken across the Wendy’s brand over the last year to help reinforce the safety and comfort of our restaurant teams and customers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional policies and procedures may apply based on state and local requirements and the specific policies and procedures applicable for each restaurant locations. Franchisees are solely responsible for employment matters at the restaurants that they own and operate.
Wendy’s has instituted a brand standard regarding PPE. Restaurant team members must wear approved face masks and food service gloves while working, unless an exception applies.
We continuously reinforce our strict food safety procedures, personal hygiene standards, handwashing requirements and sanitation protocols through additional retraining and frequent communications. To support this, we require all restaurant level team members system-wide complete additional handwashing training to reinforce our strict handwashing standards.
Avoiding close contact with others and practicing good social distancing is an important recommendation from CDC and state and local public health officials. Wendy’s restaurants utilize social distancing signs and floor decals to promote distance between customers and team members.
Throughout the day, restaurant teams put an emphasis on cleaning high-touch areas, in many cases every 15 minutes.
In an effort to help support restaurant team members safety and comfort and reinforce our focus on safety and food safety for our customers, we have created several virtual training courses designed to train and reinforce proper handwashing, social distancing and proper mask usage and guidelines. These training courses are available in multiple languages to team members across the globe.
