In the early 1950s at the age of 18, Dave joined the Army at the start of the Korean War. Dave served in Germany for two and a half years, and in 1953, he returned to his job and restaurant family at the Hobby House. When a friend mentioned that it was hard to get a good lunch in downtown Columbus, Dave saw an opportunity. On November 15, 1969, Dave Thomas opened the first Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurant in Columbus, Ohio.

Jesse served in the U.S. Navy from 1992-1999 and was deployed on two West-Pacs (Western Pacific Missions). After serving, he joined Wendy's as a General Manager in 2005. After years in operations, he is now part of the IT Restaurant Support team at our Restaurant Support Center. He is also on the leadership team of our Veterans Employee Resource group, WeVets.
WeVets is our Company employee resource group (ERG) dedicated to veterans and their families. We aim to establish Wendy’s as an employer of choice for military talent transitioning to civilian life, provide development opportunities to resource group members, create a veteran and military family community at Wendy’s, and uphold our Company value of “Giving Back” to those who serve.
